In September 1974, Robert Manchester, Harvey Rickert, Vera Rickert, and Glen and Lois Yoder formed Hartville Homes, Inc. It was created for the immediate purpose of providing a home for young adults who need nursing home care. Long-range plans included the possibility of community and retirement homes.

The residents of Hartville Homes, Inc. have a wide variety of mental and physical disabilities, which requires ever-changing care needs. To meet these changing needs, a wide range of services are provided such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, active treatment, behavior management, dietetic services and services that foster integration in the community.

Hartville Meadows was the first facility built and operated by Hartville Homes, Inc. As an ICF-MR it provides residential, habilitation, and nursing services to 32 developmentally disabled adults. Hartville Meadows opened its doors in September 1981. Many of the original residents were transferred from large state institutions to provide a less restrictive environment and more potential for growth for these individuals.

On August 1, 2000, Hartville Homes, Inc. expanded its service to 67 more individuals with developmental disabilities through the acquisition of five facilities in West Lafayette, Ohio, collectively named Lafayette Meadows. The acquisition of Lafayette Meadows brought together two reputable residential providers into one high quality service provider. Through the sharing of ideas, strengths, and experiences, Lafayette Meadows and Hartville Meadows, now provides an even higher quality of care to the individuals we serve. In continuing Hartville Homes' mission of providing quality services, we have launched our newest endeavor, Hartville Residential Services. In this setting, we provide residential care in community homes for the developmental disabled.

As Hartville Homes, Inc. looks to the future, it aims to continue to provide the high quality care that has become a defining principle of its philosophy. With this thought, Hartville Homes, Inc. has developed a foundation that will allow us to better financially support our goals, philosophy and mission in the future. Hartville Homes' vision is to expand services to the communities that we serve in the spirit of the founders -- services that will positively impact the lives of those we serve.
